A Word from the Employee Dining Room Manager
The Employee Dining Room (EDR) Manager oversees the EDRs. Most of their time is spent working side-by-side with the teams to help train and teach. The goal of the EDR is to make sure everybody gets fed and that they’re ready to work. Beyond that, EDRs are the social hub for what we do in Yellowstone. Not only do people eat in the EDR, they also read, play board games, or just hang out. Here are some tips on how to make the most of your EDR experience:
- Play with your food! Rice on the hot line? Add it to a bowl of soup. Not feeling a steak or chicken sandwich? Cut up that steak or chicken and top your salad with it instead or grab some bread, cheese, tomato and bacon and have an elevated grilled cheese. Explore the possibilities. Check out more hacks.
- Communicate! Whether you love it or hate it, the EDR Manager is always looking for constructive feedback. Outside of the annual EDR survey, employees are always welcome to fill out a comment card or talk to their EDR manager. In fact, last year an employee submitted a vegetarian soup recipe and it is now on the menu!
- Fill ‘er up! For less than $12/day, you are getting three meals with multiple options per meal. We encourage employees to come back as many times as you want and get as much food as you want. We don’t want to see any employee going hungry.
- Get to know your EDR crew! Each EDR is staffed by less than a dozen folks but they may serve up to 400 lunches in a single day. Your experience in the EDR will be made even better when you know the friendly faces who work hard to serve their guests all season long.

Employee Dining Room Options
The menu image below shows a sample 30-day rotating menu. If you aren’t interested in what is served on the hot line, you can always request a hot dog, hamburger, chicken breast, or make your own grilled sandwich using ingredients from the salad and sandwich bar. Along with the above, a variety of beverages (soft drinks, coffee, hot cocoa, milk, juice, and more) and fruit (apples, oranges, bananas, etc.) are always provided. A toaster and microwave are provided as well.
Employee Dining Room Settings
Each village in Yellowstone has its own vibe and so does each of its EDRs. In many places, you will find colorful tables in a variety of layouts. The chairs add to the decor with cutouts of Yellowstone’s famous wildlife (bears and bison). Each EDR has a digital screen that provides inspiration and information on a constantly updated basis. The EDR attempts to satisfy all employee needs, however, due to large volume, they can’t do that for individuals with restricted dietary needs (diabetic, gluten-free, vegan, etc.). Employees with special dietary needs may be able to self-select options to accommodate their needs based on some of the items provided on the hot line, salad bar, sandwich bar and soups.
EDR hours may vary slightly but typically breakfast is from 6:00-8:00 am, lunch is from 11:00 am-1:00 pm and dinner is from 4:15 pm-6:30 pm.
You can always order a box lunch when you want to head out for a hike, picnic or other Yellowstone adventure. Alternatively, if you are traveling around the park, you are always welcome to stop by other EDRs to eat.
